How this calculator works
Federal income tax uses the 2026 brackets and standard deduction; Social Security is 6.2% up to $184,500 and Medicare 1.45% (plus 0.9% over $200,000).
California income tax uses its 2026 brackets, a standard deduction of $5,540 single or $11,080 joint and a personal credit of $153, as compiled by the Tax Foundation.
What it assumes
- Standard deduction, no other income or credits, and the year's tax spread evenly across paychecks.
- California also takes State Disability Insurance (SDI) out of wages, which this estimate doesn't include.
- No widespread local income tax.
